Charters/Tours less than one weekWe had such a great adventure together! Sailing the inside passage for one month from the Queen Charlotte Islands to Vancouver. BC, Canada was such a memorable experience. The time literally sailed by:) Jesse D from the UK We had the most lovely experience...Thanks for your incredible patience with the 4 of us(mom, dad, plus a 3 and 4 year old boy). My husband speared the largest fish he has ever gotten while on your boat. Everything seemed to flow really well. Many people do not have the patience you have for a family with small children.
CÉLINE M (France) Skipper JIm's Note: This family is from Paris France. They came onboard to see how one over night would work (for the family) and ended up staying for 5 days and nights total! The kids were great! We had sushi and the fish was cooked a couple of ways every day. We sailed all over the Pacific coast of Costa Rica near the Nicaraguan border Are you serious? I would go sailing with you again in a heartbeat. Too bad my girlfriend and I didn't discover you until our last day in Nicaragua. That said, we cannot think of a better way to end our journey, sailing with you we "discovered" the most beautiful beach during of our 3 month trip. David G & Angela B They went on a Day Tour near San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua The following is a testimonial from someone that choose to help out and learn a bit about sailing while on a tour...One thing leads to another. The pull of sailing is irresistible. Natural, physical, mechanical, and algebraic, peaceful while demanding. So it seems to a landlubber like me, but I had never set foot on a real sailboat before going out with Jim for a 5 hour tour. I had always wanted to - just never saw it through, until last week.
There is something quite special about wooden boats - they feel elemental and self-reliant. The XXX is a 35-foot gaff rig cutter. It is sturdy, maneuverable, and easy to sail, or so it seems with Jim at the helm. He is not only an accomplished sailor, but also a very gentle and relaxed teacher - easily communicating a sense of immediacy about what needs to be done and why, while making it all seem relaxed, being tremendously encouraging, and providing his guests the opportunity to get as involved if they want. Taking off under sail-power the first time out felt like a rocket-launch - it was very important to move a jib from one side to the other to avoid coming too close to a buoy, catching a little wind this way and that while working the tiller. The entire time, Jim was patient and highly instructive, easily communicating the thrill of making it all work while keeping everything calm and under control. After a bit of sailing north, we pulled into a cove, learning much about watching rocks and a compass and GPS to locate a spot where Jim had anchored before, and after a bit of maneuvering dropped anchor there. Jim took the opportunity to cook a delicious east-asian curry with local organic ingredients. Eating, swimming, resting up a bit, and just taking in the scenery, we were recharged in an hour or two, weighed anchor, raised sails, and got underway again, heading back to the bay from whence we came. All in all it is difficult to imagine a better first-timer experience sailing, and am guessing that doing it again will be just as enjoyable. Sterling instruction, a relaxed and respectful atmosphere, great food, and beautiful destinations. Juan V (dual citizen Chile & USA) |
Tours & adventures for one week & longerI sailed one week with Jim this summer(2010) in the San Juan Islands,(Washington State, USA) while teaching me the basics of sailing. I learnt a lot about sailing, and had such a great time with him. It felt immediately as if we were old friends. Each day was amazing, we sailed between the Islands, plus met some of his friends and had an awesome potluck.
Jim is generous and i hope to have the opportunuty to sail again with him.Thank you for this time spent with you, it's one of my best souvenir in my travel in USA :) Take care Marie G (France) Thank you so much for a life changing experience! This was my first time sailing and I learned so much. Not just about sailing but on many other topics of discussions we had as well. What can I say...Jim is very patent, knowledgeable, kind and lots of fun to hang with. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a memorable adventure that you will be talking about for years to come. Thanks again, Robin L from Ohio USA I sailed with Jim from Washington state to San Francisco. We went 80 miles off the coast. Saw lots of whales and dolphins while sailing, plus found some very cool coastal town to anchor out and explore in Northern California.
Hope I can convince my girlfriend to join me next time. Tyler R (Kansas, USA) We sailed with Jim for 2 weeks going to one of the most spectacular places I have ever been, Glacier Bay Alaska. Jim was well prepared for any and all situations that arose. Both Julie and myself have over 20 years experience each and yet we still learned a lot from Skipper Jim. We all shared in cooking, but we have never experienced the quality and variety of food while sailing before.
Jim is a very easy going guy. Susan B and Natasha P (Toronto, Canada) "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
